Look Ugly in a Photograph was started December 31, 2008 by a girl named Ruta who felt that she needed a way to express her personal style to the world. Although Ruta resides in a big city where fashion swarms around her, among her own personal tight knit group of friends and family, there just weren't enough people with whom she could share her love for fashion. Creating a blog was a way to escape this problem.
Even though Ruta's blog focuses on her personal style, at times it also showcases inspirational photographs, and DIY tutorials.
What's up with the blog name?
Many people wonder why she chose such an unusual name for her blog, and wouldn't it have been better to choose something more uplifting and pretty. While a blog named after a flower or some sort of inspirational quote by a famous fashionable person may be the route that some bloggers choose, this wasn't one that Ruta wanted to take. Look ugly in a photograph is a line from a song by U2, City of Blinding Lights. U2 may have had a number of connotations for these particular words, but Ruta decided that they applied fairly well to the fashion world. Everyone has a different opinion about how one should dress simply because everyone has their own style. Yet, dressing a certain way because someone else wants you to is never the answer, which is why we shouldn't be afraid to wear what we want, even if people see it as "ugly". Each individual blogger shares something different to the world, and it's okay if not everyone accepts their style. Looking ugly in a photograph (photograph is a metaphor for the people, the world in general) is alright.
Ruta shares her personal style with bloggers and individuals in the hopes that she can inspire people to take risks in fashion and not be afraid to show the world who they are.
