Giorgio Armani (born 11 July 1934) is an Italian fashion designer, particularly well known for his Mens Wear collections. He formed his company Armani in 1975 and by the year 2001 he was credited as the most successful designer to come from Italy. The company has an Annual Turnover of $1.3 Billion(US) and Giorgio himself holds a personal fortune of $5.3 Billion(US).

Early Life

Giorgio Armani was born in the northen Italian town of Piacenza, where he was raised with two other siblings. His father, Ugo, was a transport executive and his mother, Maria, was a homemaker.

Design Career

After a short time serving in the armed forces, Armani found a job as a window dresser at La Rinascente, a department store in Milan, he soon went to become the Mens Wear buyer for the store. From this work he gained valuable lessons and experience in fashion marketing. In the mid 1960's, Armani took at post at the Nino Cerruti company where he designed Mens Wear, his skills were in high demand for the next decade and in that time he worked freelance for several designers.
