About

Alexander Wang is a Taiwanese-American fashion designer who was born in 1984.[1]

Wang launched his first full collection of women's wear in 2007.[2] He was nominated for a 2008 Council of Fashion Designers of America in Women's Wear and won a $1,000,000 prize as the CDFA/Vogue (magazine) Fashion Fund Award winner.[3]

Wang is known for his edgy, somewhat masculine womenswear designs, and his fashion shows are renowned as being a highlight of New York Fashion Week. After designing a Fall 2008 collection using black as the predominant color[4], he designed his Spring 2009 collection using bright colors such as orange, dusty purple, aqua and hot pink, and proclaimed, "They wanted color, they got color!".[5] His Fall 2009 collection was met with wide acclaim. Although he reverted to using mainly black fabrics, he was praised for showing great tailoring skills.[6]

Wang is currently working on his first menswear collection, which will go on sale as part of his T by Alexander Wang collection. A short trailer for this collection can be found on his website.[7]
